The first Fiat 850 was launched on the market in 1964. An evolution of the Fiat 600, of which it maintained the same basic design: two-door saloon, seating 4/5, monocoque body, 4-cylinder, water-cooled rear engine, four-wheel independent suspension. It was originally available in either a normal or super version, whereas the coupé and spider sports versions were unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show one year later. Two million, two hundred thousand units of the 850 were produced from 1964 to 1971 (normale, super, coupé, spider, special versions). In 1971 the new 127 will replace the 850.
