FERRARI DESIGN. CREATIVE JOURNEYS 2010–2025

13/11/2025 –  8/3/2026

The exhibition – created in collaboration with the Ferrari Design Centre and Ferrari Museums – is the first in a series of thematic shows hosted in the new museum space dedicated to design.

On display are eleven cars representing the essence of the work led by Flavio Manzoni, selected from over seventy models designed in Maranello since 2010. The exhibition highlights not only the final result but the entire creative process. Drawings and making-of images testify to an approach that pursues formal beauty never as an end in itself, with aesthetic solutions always serving function and performance.

Among the 1:1 scale models: the FERRARI FXX-K (2014), winner of the 2016 Compasso d’Oro, the extreme version of LaFerrari for exclusive track use; the FERRARI DAYTONA SP3 (2021), part of the Icona series inspired by classic models; the FERRARI Vision Gran Turismo (2022), the brand’s first concept car dedicated to the virtual motorsport world, celebrating Ferrari’s 75th anniversary; the FERRARI F80 (2024), the pinnacle of technology applied to a supercar; and the FERRARI 12CILINDRI (2024), combining tradition and innovation.

Production models include the FERRARI LAFERRARI (2013), the first road car with hybrid power; the FERRARI MONZA SP1 (2018), winner of the 2020 Compasso d’Oro and a contemporary reinterpretation of an iconic model; the FERRARI SF90 STRADALE (2019), the first production PHEV; the FERRARI 296 GTB/GTS (2021), a revolutionary six-cylinder model; and the FERRARI PUROSANGUE (2022), winner of the 2024 Compasso d’Oro, featuring an innovative “transaxle sport” architecture with a front-mid engine and rear transmission. Two unique pieces complete the selection: the FERRARI SP38 (2018) and the FERRARI P80/C (2019).

The exhibition FERRARI DESIGN. CREATIVE JOURNEYS 2010–2025 is the first in a series of thematic shows conceived by the Museum together with design centres, designers, companies and collectors, and hosted in the Museum’s new space dedicated to DESIGN: 2,000 m² that speak of industrial creativity and the design process, along an educational path that guides visitors through the evolution of automotive styling and product design—from iconic objects to furniture, up to the most innovative technological solutions. The new DESIGN section is part of a broader project to update the visitor itinerary, through which the Museum has rethought the tools used to communicate its collection in an accessible, contemporary, cross-disciplinary and sustainable way.

Curated by Silvia Baruffaldi—Editor-in-Chief of AUTO&DESIGN—and designed by Studio Librizzi with Leftloft for the multimedia installation, the section extends over almost 2,000 m² and includes the area for temporary exhibitions and a permanent educational area, developed in collaboration with Triennale Milano for the product-design component.

The installation unfolds through a sequence of fan-shaped surfaces that structure the route and host a selection of objects, models and documents. Each element becomes a stage in a narrative that goes beyond the technical bounds of the automobile to embrace design and industrial production, fashion, graphics and the visual culture of its time. From product ideation—where the creative process turns an intuition into a tangible model—to the transformation of automotive style over time, the perspective widens to include the social and technological changes that have influenced—and in turn been influenced by—the automobile.

The section dedicated to product design is presented in collaboration with Triennale Milano – which has loaned numerous materials from its collections – and curated by Marco Sammicheli, Curator for Design, Fashion and Craft at Triennale Milano and Director of the Museo del Design Italiano.
Among the objects on display are masterpieces such as the Poltrona Tre Pezzi by Franco Albini and Franca Helg (1959, Cassina), the Mezzadro stool and the Toio lamp by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, the portable TV Algol TVC11 by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, the GA45 Pop record player and the Divisumma 28 calculator by Mario Bellini, the Eclisse lamp by Vico Magistretti, the Boby trolley by Joe Colombo, and a selection of objects from the “I like Bike” series by Monica Bolzoni.
These pieces – together with furniture, lamps, technological devices and other iconic objects – offer visitors a journey through the evolution of industrial and product design, highlighting creativity, functionality and innovation.

Artworks

On display are photographs, projects, documents, licenses, accessories, helmets, tracksuits, and trophies, as well as nine iconic racing and touring cars. Also featured are the 1940 SIMAT scooter -Count Trossi owned one of only 30 produced-, an aircraft model, an aeronautical engine, a cinemobile, and a boat.

The cars on display range from the 1935 Monaco Trossi – a futuristic prototype designed by Augusto Monaco in collaboration with Carlo Felice Trossi – to the 1938 Alfa Romeo GP Type 158, known as the “Alfetta“; from the 1931 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Monza to the revolutionary 1936 Maserati 6 CM racing single-seater; from the 1930 Mercedes-Benz SSK to the 1942 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS, onto which Trossi initially installed two headlights taken from his personal aircraft in place of the original central headlights; and from the 1932 Alfa Romeo Type B P3 to the rare 1934 Cattaneo Trossi, a fully functional miniature car. Finally, the 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Zagato is exhibited – the car with which Trossi finished second in his first Mille Miglia that same year.

(Francesco Zanot)

Sound Reconstruction of the Monaco - Trossi Engine

The installation recreates the sound of the legendary Monaco–Trossi engine, unheard since 1935, through a sophisticated audio reconstruction using cutting-edge neural synthesis techniques. The algorithmic sonification process, conceived and developed by MuseeX, combines a scientific and creative approach that integrates historical sources, engineering data, and generative models. The result is an immersive and realistic sound model that evokes the authentic voice of a car lost to time. Reliving the past through sound lies at the heart of MuseeX’s research: each project resurfaces what has been forgotten, hidden, or lost, transforming it into a soundscape that gives voice to memory.

Public Program

Talks, screenings and opportunities for discussion as a corollary to the temporary exhibitions.

DIGITAL VISUAL Citywide dialogues in Turin

year-long widespread program

What does it mean to make art in Turin today? How has the city’s art scene changed in recent years? What impact has the digital world had on the relationships between artists, curators, and gallerists? DIGITAL VISUAL is a widespread project that, every week in a different cultural venue, brings together two artists and a curator to explore the transformation of visual languages and relationships within the art system—between production, authorship, and distribution. An itinerant journey that engages places, voices, and generations to reflect the complexity of the contemporary visual system. A project by Quartz Studio, in collaboration with MAUTO – Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile, Fondazione Santagata, and the University of Turin.

The Public Program completes the MAUTO cultural schedule and broadens the discussion on the subject of cars and mobility. A program that explores different languages and transversal approaches, opening up to a contemporary and transmedia discussion.
STORIES, VISIONS, SOUNDS. A  calendar of meetings that alternates between conversations, editorial presentations, projections, musical and performance events: stories that embrace art, design, literature and current affairs; visual explorations ranging from auteur films to artist videos and documentaries; sound proposals that move between musical genres, with authors and performers, ensembles and soloists.

Some of the scheduled meetings – all free and upon reservation – develop from the themes addressed by the temporary exhibitions and research activities of the Museum’s Conservation and Restoration Centre and Documentation Centre.
