This is the four-wheel version of the Tri, whose production figures ran up to 21,000 from 1895 to 1899.
De Dion and Bouton had already made a name for themselves by driving their steam-powered vehicle to victory in the world’s first car race – the 126 km Paris-Rouen – on 19 July 1894 at the “breathtaking” average of 17.398 kmph.
