It is Benz’s first twin cylinder and a true best-seller of the time: 572 vehicles sold in 1899, 603 the following year. Powerful, fast – with its 35 km/h – and comfortable, it will become a milestone in the German manufacturer’s history. The bodywork is of the break kind: very fashionable at the time, it fully exploits the encumbrance of the horizontal engine. It was donated to the Museum in 1935 by engineer Alfredo Varni, who was told “by a friend” that Carlo Biscaretti was trying hard to compose the original core of the collection.
