The Future Unfolds
The Future Unfolds is a system-wide initiative promoted by Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile with the aim of increasing awareness and disseminating knowledge on topics related to sustainable mobility.
LOREM IPSUM
- THE FUTURE UNFOLDS
To play an active role concerning the present challenges, Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile presents The Future Unfolds project that combines the redesign of an exhibition section in a dynamic, interactive format with a program of outreach and educational activities dedicated to innovation in the field of sustainable mobility.
With this initiative, the Museum aims to disseminate knowledge and stimulate the active participation of citizens, contributing to increasing public awareness of sustainable mobility and the ecological and digital transition, with a concrete look towards the goal of Torino’s carbon neutrality by 2030.
An internationally recognized steering committee – composed of experts from institutions, research, industry, and society – advises the Museum on content development and strategic choices in mobility and sustainability. It validates methodologies and fosters collaborations at local, national, and international levels.
- TOPICS
TOPICS
TECHNOLOGY
The mobility of the future will be strongly influenced by technological innovations, which will transform the way we move and interact with the city. Not only will our transport systems, infrastructure, and vehicles evolve, but so too will the mobility services we can enjoy. Digitalization and decarbonization will drive the transition to more sustainable mobility for all. But technology can only play a supporting role for humans. And we will be the ones, with our choices and our behaviours, to build the future we want.
POLICIES
The mobility of the future will depend very much on the strategic decisions and policies that will be put in place. Europe is clear about how transport should be: sustainable, safe, inclusive and resilient. Sustainable, to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050; with Torino already committed to doing so by 2030. Safe, because the goal is to have zero deaths by 2050. Inclusive, namely accessible to all, regardless of their conditions and circumstances. Resilient, to adapt to climate change and to withstand or recover from unforeseen events. Integrated planning between mobility, urban planning, energy and environment will be crucial to achieve these goals.
PEOPLE
People play a key role in building the mobility of the future: change starts with small daily actions. The first step is awareness. Understanding the impact of our journeys and being aware of the pros and cons of the options available to us is essential to making more sustainable choices. The second step is to participate in decision-making processes, express needs and opinions and collaborate with institutions and companies to design solutions that respond to the needs of the community. The third step is to adopt responsible behaviours that help reduce the impact of our mobility choices.

- EXPERIENCE
The Future Unfolds Space
The project starts with SPAZIO FUTURO, a new addition to the museum’s permanent exhibition designed in collaboration with Fondazione LINKS and Herbert Simon Society, to offer visitors an informed and up-to-date perspective at the ongoing transformations, and to stimulate a collective reflection on the possible trajectories of the future.
Through a multimedia set-up, designed by Leftloft, and cutting-edge prototypes, this is an immersive and flexible environment, designed to guide visitors in exploring the innovative technologies that are redesigning sustainable mobility, offering them an engaging and stimulating experience.
Fondazione LINKS, Herbert Simon Society, and MOST-Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile are the scientific partners of the project and oversee its content. The concept, setup, installations, and multimedia content are by Leftloft.
Spazio Futuro
The Future Mobility Space consists of 4 rooms – OBSERVE, WALK, EXPLORE and COMPASS – and guides a reflective journey on the role each of us plays in building a sustainable future, through immersive experiences, digital tools, and physical prototypes from the world of universities, research and development.
In particular, Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with MOST-Centro Nazionale per la Mobilità Sostenibile , to disseminate the results of the research applied in a specific section of the new exhibition space – EXPLORE – and through the Public Program events.
- ·OBSERVE
Understanding the past
The first room explores how humanity has always felt the need to imagine the future through art, cinema or literature and how these visions have often been the foundations of evolution. The future is already underway, and some recent innovations have led to comforting results for the safety and sustainability of transport.
- WALK
Knowing the present
Nella seconda sala i visitatori sono chiamati a verificare il proprio livello di conoscenza e a raccontare i propri comportamenti nell’ambito della mobilità. Le informazioni sono registrate sulla card NFC e alimentano l’installazione finale.
- EXPLORE
Exploring paths to the future
The third room presents key topics in scientific research, technological innovation, public policy, and mobility-related behaviour. Through videos, data, and interactive prototypes, visitors can explore possible futures. An installation helps identify which type of future vehicle best suits their needs.
- COMPASS
Navigate among the possible scenarios
The final room acts as a compass, helping visitors navigate through various possible future mobility scenarios, some of which are generated with the support of artificial intelligence. Based on the personal data collected via the NFC card throughout the experience, each visitor is guided to the scenario that best aligns with their knowledge, behaviours, and values.

- REPORTAGE
