Whether you call it Fiat 500 or Topolino (little mouse) is not important. It is a milestone of car design history: the Italian answer to the social, economic, and – especially – political trends of the ‘30s which were calling for a “people’s” car. It was a huge success, sprung from Dante Giacosa’s creative hand, and was to last until 1955 when the production came to an end after more than half a million vehicles produced in three series.
