This very successful hatchback was designed by Giugiaro with a fresh and modern line. It was very well received by the market and was voted Car of the Year in 1980. It was also the undisputed star of rallies, with six consecutive World Championships won and a worldwide fame. This more aggressive version was created for the die-hard enthusiasts and soon nicknamed “Deltona”, thanks to its widened wheel arches, high performances, and strong sports features. All this found its highest expression in the special series Martini 5 and 6 (which commemorate their respective World Championships) with dedicated livery and even more extreme fittings. The one exhibited here, however, is a “normal” evolution: the tuning does the rest.
The car on display is a body with an engine and no chassis number, used by Lancia in order to evaluate how the new Martini livery would look on the factory racing Deltas.
