Carrozzeria Bertone, founded in 1912, is one of the oldest and most prestigious “made in Italy” brands in the car industry, which accompanied the industry’s technological and stylistic evolution throughout the entire first century of its existence. Some of the most beautiful and prestigious cars of the twentieth century wear its signature: Lamborghini Countach, Lancia Stratos, Fiat X1/9, Lamborghini Miura, and the Citroën X series. The business developed thanks to Nuccio Bertone (1914-1997), son of Giovanni, the founder. Some of the world’s most famous designers were born in Bertone and discovered by Nuccio himself: first among many, Marcello Gandini and Giorgetto Giugiaro. After Nuccio Bertone’s death, the company started a slow decline. In 2009, the Italian Ministry of Economic Development authorized the sale of the Bertone plant in Grugliasco to the Fiat Group. The brand Bertone, however, remained property of the family, but in June 2014 also Stile Bertone fell into bankruptcy.
