The prototype of the Floride was derived from the renowned Dauphine, for many years the mainstay of Renault. The bodywork of the coupé and 2+2 version was designed in Turin by Pietro Frua at the request of the French manufacturer. The prototype bodywork was made by Carrozzeria Ghia. The Floride was presented at the Paris Show in 1958 where its broad-vision windscreen and low-slung, dashing line distinguished it from its fellows.
