The 20 HP provided by the 4179 cc propulsion system make the Fiat 16/20 HP a high-level vehicle with plenty of success, so much so that the first version from 1903 was followed in 1906 by an updated model, with a four and a half liter displacement and a multiple plate clutch to replace the by then obsolete band clutch. This essential “tonneau” bodywork, built on a first-series frame, is part of a batch of vehicles donated to the Museum in 1947 by Sofia countess of Bricherasio, sister of that Emanuele who had been among the founding partners of Fiat.
