The mass-produced car by excellence: 15 million vehicles sold between 1908 and 1927 make it the symbol of an era and worthy of its title as “Car of the Century”. It has a simple, rational, and sturdy construction, able to satisfy any kind of customer, who is free to choose between very few versions and even less customizations. Henry Ford’s statement in fact became famous: “any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants, so long as it is black”. The modern assembly line was born around the Model T, and with it a new way of organizing industry, which aims at selling the product to the company’s own workers, when in Europe the car was still a “toy” for the few and fortunate. Ford itself donated it to the Museum in 1959.
