In the wake of the success brought by its 308 GTB and GTS during the first half of 1980, Ferrari started producing a series of cars fitted with a V8, 2-litre engine, partly supercharged, like the one on display. As with all others Ferraris of this capacity, the 208 GTB was solely produced for the Italian market: 450 cars were built between 1981 and 1985.
