“The holiday is over”, President Luca di Montezemolo was to declare at the traditional end of season meeting. This was his way of saying that he wasn’t satisfied with how the F1 season had gone. In fact, having won the Constructors’ Title for six consecutive years (1999 to 2004) and the Drivers’ Title for five thanks to Michael Schumacher, the 2005 season proved disappointing indeed. The new single-seater, the F2005, didn’t debut until the third round. Unveiled to the press on February 25th, the F2005 had the distinction of being the 51th single-seater built by Ferrari for the F1 World Championship. It was designed by an Italian, Aldo Costa. The season started badly, and a ray of hope came only in Canada, when Schumacher finisched second. But it still wasn’t nearly enough. The final round in China at least meant that a truly frustrating season was over at long last and that the team could now concentrate fully on a comeback for the 2006 season.
