It was conceived to replace a legend like the XK and was born from the hand of Malcom Sayer, just like the C-Type and D-Type, which some years earlier had been the stars of Le Mans. In Geneva 1961 the coupé version was presented, and some months later, in New York, the spider, which winked at the overseas market and would shortly seduce the entire world. Unusual, fascinating, and relatively affordable, it experienced an overwhelming and long-lasting success, in terms of sales volumes and in the common imagination.
