The Fulvia saloon was presented at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. It was a compact and comfortable, front-wheel-drive model with rather square lines and good carrying capacity. Priced at ITL 1,420,500, it offered the quality and class usually confined to more up-market vehicles. The coupé, with its elegant, dashing line designed by Piero Castagnero, was presented at Geneva two years later and proved exceptionally successful, both commercially and as a sports car. Its top speed of 160 km/h was coupled with sparkling acceleration thanks to its light weight (110 kg less than 1060 kg of the second-series saloon) and excellent sporty performance on the road. A total of 20,436 examples of this first version were produced.
