In 1954, the year of its debut, this car only leaves the crumbs to its competitors: modern, fast, reliable and driven by some of the greatest drivers of the time, from Kling to Moss to Fangio, who brought it the title of world champion in 1954 and 1955. It was donated to the Museum in 1957 with a letter by Nallinger, “Chefingenieur” of Daimler Benz, followed by a second letter by the great Alfred Neubauer. The model here exhibited has open wheels, but for high-speed races there was another version with a streamlined body “dressing” the 8-cylinder in-line engine with direct fuel injection, double ignition and desmodromic distribution system.
