Together with a single cylinder model, this two cylinder model was sold successfully by the American brand REO from the year of its foundation, 1904, to 1910. The single cylinder model produced 8 bhp and had a top speed of 45 km/h, while the bigger, faster two-cylinder model was a 2+2 with room for four on two bench seats, and reached a top speed of 60 km/h. The car was simple, inexpensive, quite efficient and known for its low fuel consumption: in an economy run in 1907, a Reo with 4 persons on board covered 682 miles (1097 km) at a cost of three and a half dollars per head. Sold at 1000 dollars, this Roadster version (the Reo could be ordered in Touring, Runabout or Roadster guise) was described as “the sportiest thing on wheels”.
