A slim and essential spider bodywork underlines the virtues of the 23 S: sportiness and brilliance, the same virtues that made the name of the SPA (Società Piemontese Automobili), founded in 1906 by Matteo Ceirano and Michele Ansaldi. Its racing results were remarkable: victories in the Cup of the Alps, the Aosta to Gran San Bernardo race, and the Cuneo to Colle della Maddalena, all in the early 1920s. To find one of these vehicles to donate to the Museum, Fiat had to mobilize even its Wembley branch, Fiat England. It is 1959 and the value of the vehicle, declared “purely for statistical reasons”, was set to 341,359 lire.
