The Ferrari 500 F2 was created in 1951, when Enzo Ferrari decided to focus on Formula 2—a less costly and more manageable alternative to Formula 1.
A year later, the car was admitted to Formula 1, where it quickly became the undisputed star until the regulation changes of 1954. Driven by Alberto Ascari, the Prancing Horse single-seater claimed two consecutive World Championships. With 31 victories out of 35 Grands Prix, it is still remembered today as one of the most successful Ferraris in history.
