Developed from the Tipo 26—the first car to bear the Trident badge—the 26B was, in the words of the Maserati brothers, “the first car built in our workshop”.
With Alfieri Maserati at the wheel, it achieved third place overall at the 1927 Targa Florio. Despite Alfieri’s career being cut short by a serious crash at the Coppa di Messina, the car continued racing and, in 1928, won the Italian Manufacturers’ Championship—one of the first major sporting triumphs for the young Modena-based company.
