Presented at the 1955 Paris Motor Show, the Citroën DS 19, known as ‘La Déesse’, had nothing in common with the cars manufactured up to that time in Europe and around the world, either in terms of its technical features or its futuristic lines, designed by the father of the Traction Avant and the 2CV, the Italian Flaminio Bertoni. When designing the body, he chose to work with clay and carefully modelled an aerodynamic hatchback body, low and wide, with slender pillars, a large window area, a panoramic windscreen and rear window with curves that joined the windows, in harmony with the horizontal beltline.
