Itala 35/45 HP “Palombella”

1909

Itala’s prestige was such that it was one of the car manufacturers favoured by the Royal House of Savoy, in particular by Queen Margherita, for whom this 35/45 HP Itala was built. She christened it ‘Palombella’ and its refined bodywork was executed in Milan by Cesare Sala, one of the leading coachbuilders of the time. The chassis is identical to that of the famous Itala that won the Peking to Paris race in 1907, except for a few modifications, for example the two brakes controlled by separate pedals. Note the silver eagle-shaped handles and the fold- down access ladder under the door in this luxurious ‘limousine landaulet’.
