An undisputed symbol of the wave of modernity that the automobile represented in the last century, the Itala model 35/45 HP is the protagonist of the legendary race from Peking to Paris in 1907. Specially equipped for the race, Scipione Borghese’s Itala (later called Peking-Paris) had three large fuel tanks – two 150-litre tanks on the side and one 80-litre tank at the rear of the car – and was powered by a 7-litre engine with a 4-speed gearbox. The wheels were larger than the factory model, of equal diameter in the front and rear axles to limit stock, with wooden rims that were easier to repair and long ash boards instead of mudguards.
