Ayrton Senna Forever

24/04/2024 –  03/11/2024

On the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Ayrton Senna, the Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile dedicates a large exhibition to the Brazilian driver to delve into two aspects of his life: the champion’s sports history and the private history of a man who has conquered the hearts of millions of fans around the world.

From early kart experiences to Formula 1 single-seaters, the AYRTON SENNA FOREVER exhibition collects the most significant cars driven by Senna throughout his career, from the first Formula Ford to the last Williams. The cars will be accompanied by documents, publications and memorabilia: among these, the most complete collection of racing suits and helmets of the driver and the widest selection of all publications published, in the world, on Ayrton Senna.
To accompany the story, an important visual apparatus will be articulated along the entire path: spectacular images (some previously unpublished), Super8 films, audio-visual installations, and a multi-projection on a large screen.

Among the many photographs on display, taken by the greatest photographers of the time, a wide selection of shots by Angelo Orsi, a great friend and official photographer of Senna.

As a corollary of the exhibition – the largest and most complete ever made – five moments of meeting and debate: pilots, journalists, designers, testers and friends, the loved ones and rivals of all time will help to draw a complete portrait of the unforgettable champion. Many testimonies from those who knew him and – in various ways – influenced his amazing career.

Ducati Monster Senna

Starting in August, a special collector’s edition tribute version of Ducati’s most iconic naked will be on display in the MAUTO plaza, in conjunction with the AYRTON SENNA FOREVER exhibition.

The Monster, of which Ayrton Senna was one of the very first owners, will be tinged with the colours of Brazil to honour a champion who left an indelible mark in the hearts of all enthusiasts. A limited series of 341 examples: 3, like the rainbow titles he won, and 41, like the races in which he finished on the top step of the podium.

On 17 October, the Museum organises a special Senna Talk to talk about Senna’s passion for the Ducati Monster and the project for the tribute bike dedicated to him. Speakers: Livio Lodi, Ducati Museum curator, and Lorenzo Corghi, Brand & Design Project Manager.

TAG Heuer for Ayrton Senna Forever

On the occasion of the exhibition AYRTON SENNA FOREVER, MAUTO – Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile hosts from October 3rd to November 3d a special exhibition of watches of the historical TAG Heuer brand worn by Ayrton Senna during his career.

Podcast

AYRTON SENNA FOREVER is also the title of the new podcast created by CHORA MEDIA for Museo Nazionale dell’Automobile. Three episodes are proposed as an accompanying tool for an exciting journey through the exhibition of the same name.

Thirty years after the death of Ayrton Senna, thanks to a sound and immersive story, we will retrace the great driver’s career together, from his beginnings with karts in Brazil to his great successes in Formula One. We will follow him from circuit to circuit around the world, where he will clash with the great champions of the time, from Alain Prost to Nigel Mansell, with resounding victories and inevitable defeats. Thanks to the testimonies of Carlo Cavicchi, journalist and author of the book “Senna vero” and Angelo Orsi, photographer and great friend of Senna, and accompanied by the narrating voice of Emanuele Ruzza, we will get to know Ayrton’s personality and character up close, while the driver Riccardo Patrese will tell us, as the protagonist, about the world of Formula One in those years.

Public Program

Talks, screenings and opportunities for discussion as a corollary to the temporary exhibitions.
The Public Program completes the MAUTO cultural schedule and broadens the discussion on the subject of cars and mobility. A program that explores different languages and transversal approaches, opening up to a contemporary and transmedia discussion.
STORIES, VISIONS, SOUNDS. A  calendar of meetings that alternates between conversations, editorial presentations, projections, musical and performance events: stories that embrace art, design, literature and current affairs; visual explorations ranging from auteur films to artist videos and documentaries; sound proposals that move between musical genres, with authors and performers, ensembles and soloists.

Some of the scheduled meetings – all free and upon reservation – develop from the themes addressed by the temporary exhibitions and research activities of the Museum’s Conservation and Restoration Centre and Documentation Centre.
