Designed by Vittorio Jano, this Formula 1 single-seater made its debut at the 1954 Spanish Grand Prix with Alberto Ascari. The first successes came the following year, with victories at the Turin and Naples Grands Prix.
Ascari’s tragic death at Monza in 1955, however, marked the end of Lancia’s direct involvement in racing. The six cars built were handed over to Ferrari, which continued their development. With this car—renamed the Lancia–Ferrari D50—Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1956 World Championship.
