The last front-engined single-seater from Maranello, the 246 F1 marked a pivotal stage in racing history. With this car, Mike Hawthorn won the 1958 Drivers’ World Championship—the first for a British driver. The model remained in competition until 1960, when it took victory at Monza in the Italian Grand Prix—the final Formula 1 win for a front-engined car.
In 2001, Ferrari, in collaboration with the Museum, restored the example on display to its original splendour, using period materials and drawings.
