Among the special features of the car were two fuel tanks mounted outside the bodywork, separately from the body of the car, with which Jano wanted to achieve good aerodynamic profiling. At 620 kg unladen weight, it was also one of the lightest single-seaters at the time, considering that the new Mercedes W 196 weighed 690 kg. It made its racing debut at the 1954 Spanish Grand Prix, with Alberto Ascari at the wheel, fresh from a one-year contract with Lancia.
